Open Rehearsals
Monday, January 21st
Monday, January 28th7:15 - 9:30 PM
Faith Evangelical Free Church
54 Hosmer Street, ActonJoin the Acton Community Chorus as they continue their 24th year of singing. They’ll be preparing a wonderful blend of music for their Spring Concert to be held Friday and Saturday, May 30th and 31st. This year’s theme is “Love’s Journey—the Many Faces of Love” and will feature songs all about Love and its many moods taken from a wide variety of eras and composers, from Irving Berlin’s Steppin’ Out with My Baby to The Beatles’ All You Need is Love. Cole Porter’s Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye and Burt Bacharach’s I’ll Never Fall in Love Again will explore those moments where love takes a turn for the worst, and you’ll even find some Country favorites, including Where Your Road Leads and Love Can Build a Bridge to help us along Love’s Journey. But wait, there’s more, as the program will also include the love theme from the blockbuster movie “Titanic” and James Taylor’s How Sweet it is to be Loved by You. Songs old and new, sorrowed and true, there’ll be something for everyone (and even something comic) to create an entire season of fun, song-filled evenings.
Rehearsals are every Monday night from 7:15 pm to 9:30 pm in the sanctuary of Faith Evangelical Free Church, 54 Hosmer Street, in Acton.
No auditions are required—come and sing, and Put a Little Love in Your Heart!
About the Chorus
The Acton Community Chorus is a local, non-profit community organization founded in 1984 to provide singers from Acton and surrounding towns with an opportunity to come together for their mutual enjoyment and to share the joy of music with the community. We have enjoyed continued growth over the last twenty years under the musical direction and guidance of our musical director, Paul Johnson, and our accompanist, Susan Bishov.
The chorus rehearses Monday evenings in preparation for our two major performances. Our Winter Concert in January typically features classical choral selections. Recent concerts have included works by Mozart, Vivaldi, Brahms, Bach, Britten, and Vierne. Our Spring Pops Concert in June features more contemporary music, generally around a central theme, such as "Sounds of the Sixties," "A Night at the Movies," and "Broadway, Then & Now."
We encourage area singers to join the chorus during our two open rehearsals each season. Our next open rehearsals will be after our January concert to prepare our spring concert. No auditions are required.
How to Join the Acton Community Chorus
The Acton Community Chorus is open to all local citizens 18 years and older without audition, but we do ask for a serious commitment to our rehearsal and concert schedule. Come to one of our two open rehearsals at the opening of each season. The open rehearsal dates for each season will be listed here and on our homepage.
Membership Costs
Our members pay season dues of $60 ($50 for seniors). These dues, as well as yearly fundraising and concert ticket sales, cover our expenses for the year including salaries, space rentals for rehearsals and concerts, and any other administrative and create expenses incurred. In addition to dues, there will be a minimal fee for the rental of rehearsal tapes and possibly a small cost for music and/or costumes used in performance.
Rehearsal Schedule
ACC rehearses EVERY Monday night, except certain holidays. We expect a firm commitment to participate in rehearsals and concerts. We start singing warm-ups at 7:30 pm so please arrive by 7:15 to allow time for sign-in, music distribution, and other administrative tasks. We finish up around 9:30 pm.
Musical Ability
We vary in skill from no previous choral experience to substantial vocal training. Some of us are learning to read music; others are practiced sight-readers. We range in age from teenagers through senior citizens. We are business people, students, educators, engineers, homemakers, and retirees. We give of ourselves to each other and to our community and feel we are richer for doing so.
Audition Policy
Although no auditions are needed to join ACC, there are often solo and small group ensemble opportunities for which audtions are required. Auditions are open to any chorus member and decisions are made by an auditioning committee comprised of a non-auditioning chorus member from each voice part, any non-auditioning concert producers, and Paul and Susan.
